In commemoration of the 124th Anniversary of the Sea Wing Disaster (July 13), the Goodhue County Historical Society will offer two great events the weekend of July 12 and 13. July 12, the Goodhue County History Center presents a night of music and entertainment by Lauren Pelon. Beginning at 7 PM, Pelon and friends will perform original songs including the Sea Wing Ballad. Tickets are $10 each.
On Sunday, July 13, the public is invited to take a cruise from Levee Park to the location of where disaster struck the Sea Wing river boat exactly 124 years to the day. Author and Historian Fred Johnson will join riders on the journey, telling the story of the Sea Wing as it left on what was supposed to be a leisurely tour to the National Guard encampment, but turned into what has been referred to as “Minnesota’s Titanic.” Cruises will be offered at 9 AM and 1 PM, departing from Levee Park in Red Wing. Tickets are $50 each which includes a copy of the newly revised and expanded Sea Wing Disaster book.
